AU BOIS LE SIRE ***
Alsace, a region with many facets, set in a green setting: plains, vineyards on the hillsides, its many typical villages on the wine route, the mountains, the route des crêtes... A land with a rich cultural past, a veritable open-air museum with the medieval villages of Kaysersberg, Riquewhir and Eguisheim and numerous historic monuments, such as the fortified castles of Holandsbourg and Haut-Koenigsbourg, or the cathedrals of Colmar, Thann, Sélestat and Strasbourg. It's a land of gastronomy, with simple but tasty typical dishes such as liver dumplings or "Fleishnackas", rich and tasty charcuterie, refined dishes such as goose or duck foie gras, not forgetting of course the irreplaceable sauerkraut. And what can we say about the wines of Alsace, now in the pantheon of our country's great white wines, with the grand crus, late harvest and noble grapes, which will thrill the most demanding palates.
300-metre-long 12th-century fortress perched on a rocky ridge (Stophanberch) in the eastern Vosges mountains at a height of almost 800 metres, around ten kilometres west of Sélestat. From the castle, you can look out over the Rhine valley.
After an eventful history, it was donated by the town of Sélestat to Kaiser Wilhelm 2 in 1899.
In 2021, the castle is one of the best preserved castles and is the only French national monument in Alsace.

The Alsace Wine Route winds its way from north to south through the hills of the vineyards, covering more than 170 kilometres at the foot of the wooded slopes of the Vosges mountains. The route is a pure delight: the undulating patterns of the vines, sometimes steep, alternate with flower-filled villages with narrow streets and inimitable houses huddled around their bell towers. The cool, welcoming winstubs and wine-tasting cellars are a constant reminder of the love of wine.
From the road, you can venture into the heart of the vineyards and up to the hilltops on the many signposted wine trails that invite you to discover the work of the vines and the diversity of the grape varieties.
